Police say that the exact cause of death is being ascertained. On the other hand, the family members allege that their son was 7 huh healthy before the incident that happened in the school. This whole incident started on the afternoon of November 21, a day before the student’s death on Wednesday. Nityanand Sethi of Orli village in Jajpur district of Odisha has alleged that his son along with his three friends had climbed onto the roof of Surya Narayan Nodal School. When the teacher came to know about this, he made all the children do 20 sit-ups. However, it is being told that during this period Sethi had stumbled and fallen twice. When his condition worsened, he was first taken to Madhuban Hospital. He was then referred to SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, but by then it was too late and doctors declared him dead.
Although the exact cause of death is not yet known, the family members of the deceased alleged that the boy died due to doing sit-ups. The boy’s father Nityanand has alleged, “He was my only son. He was absolutely healthy. I don’t know what happened in school? Suddenly I got a call from some people that my son had fainted after doing sit-ups twice and they asked me to reach as soon as possible. I arrived an hour later and was taken to the hospital. When a child falls ill, the school authorities should immediately take him to the hospital instead of waiting for the parents to arrive. Had they acted immediately, my child would have been saved.”
Meanwhile, official sources said the postmortem report will confirm the exact cause of death. No complaint was lodged with the Kuakhiya police till the final report came.
In a separate incident, a Class 8 student stabbed a Class 10 student, seriously injuring him, at a school in Puri district on Wednesday.
